AEW Dynamite (05/17/2023) – Full Coverage and Results!

On Wednesday night, AEW and TBS will air another episode of AEW Dynamite from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

The main event of the night will consist of a Falls Count Anywhere Match between Chris Jericho and Roderick Strong. The trio of Jamie Hayter, Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida will clash with The Outcasts, and Tony Khan has an announcement to make.

Wardlow opens the show. The TNT Champion says Christian Cage made a number of promises last week that he wants to see if he can back up, so he challenges him to come out and talk to him face to face. Cage goes out to the ring with Luchasaurus.

Cage comes face to face with Wardlow, saying that he will be the next champion. Wardlow gets upset and grabs Cage by the neck, Luchasaurus helps Christian, who ends up applying a low blow to Wardlow. Luchasaurus passes Christian a ladder to attack Wardlow. After the first hit, Christian places the ladder in the corner and commands Saurus to continue the attack. Luchasaurus chokeslam on the ladder!

Christian takes the battered ladder to the middle of the ring and finishes off with the Killswitch, to close the moment by posing with the TNT Championship.

Tag Team Match: AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin vs. Lee Moriarty and Big Bill
– Allin lands a “Coffin Drop” on Bill, followed by a pinfall.

The Young Bucks are about to be interviewed in the arena car park, when the Blackpool Combat Club appears from behind. The Jacksons throw their bags at them to try to hit first, but the BCC prevails with violence, punishing them against a van.

Wardlow is being treated in the infirmary, when Arn Anderson arrives and takes the ice pack from him. Arn asks Wardlow if he’s ready for Christian, the champion assures that he wants to beat him at his own game. Wardlow launches the challenge: a Ladder Match in Double or Nothing for the TNT Championship.

Renee Paquette asks Orange Cassidy if she plans to fight Kyle Fletcher for the International Championship. Orange replies that many people are interested in the title, so if they want a Double or Nothing match, they should go talk to Tony Khan, he will fight everyone.

Singles Match: Sammy Guevara vs. Exodus Prime
– Guevara lands a “GTH” on Prime, followed by a pinfall.

Sammy takes the floor and says that when he is in Texas he remembers his beginnings, fighting in the indies. “I know I’m not perfect, I’ve made a lot of mistakes, they’ve watched me grow and make my mistakes. But sometimes, it takes a few wrong turns to get to the right place, and the right place is Las Vegas on May 28,” he says. “They always told me that I couldn’t achieve things, but now I listen to my heart, and my heart tells me that I am going to be the new AEW World Champion,” he closes.

Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt and Satnam Singh walk out to be interviewed by Tony Schiavone. FTR appear out of nowhere and throw Singh off the stage onto some tables. Jay removes his belt and punches Dax Harwood as Cash goes off to fight Jarrett. Dax destroys Jay’s clothes, Cash attacks with a chair, both are furious. Karen Jarrett, Jeff’s wife, shows up to surprise Cash with a cheap shot. JJ takes the opportunity to connect The Stroke to Dax.

Satnam Singh applies a Double Chokeslam to FTR and the rest of the group arrives in the ring. Jay and Jeff break guitars over their heads!

Darby Allin is interviewed backstage. Renee asks about her victory with the Headlock Takeover, MJF’s move. “Yes, that was a message,” Darby assures, but Sammy Guevara interrupts him. “In Double or Nothing I will not make it easy for any of you, it does not matter if it is me, you or Jungle Boy, one of us needs to take the title from MJF”. Darby gives him a fist bump as a sign of respect.

Tag Team Match: Ruby Soho and Toni Storm w/ Saraya vs. Hikaru Shida and Britt Baker
– Toni lands a “Storm Zero” on Baker, followed by a pinfall.

Orange Cassidy is again interviewed by Renee. Paquette tells him that 20 fighters have already claimed a shot at Tony Khan. Orange says that he will fight everyone in a Battle Royal at Double or Nothing.

Tony Khan talks about the announcement of AEW Collision, which will premiere on June 17. The premiere location will be announced next week, the next four weeks the show will be in Canada, and will return to the United States, New Jersey, on July 22 at the Prudential Center.

Falls Count Anywhere Match: Chris Jericho vs. Roderick Strong
– Strong lands a “Knee Strike” on Jericho, followed by a pinfall.

Singles Match: “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry vs. RUSH
– Perry does the “Roll-Up” on RUSH, winning the match.

After the match, Preston Vance attacks Jack Perry along with Rush. Darby Allin goes out to save Perry but is outmatched and Rush chokes him with a cable. Sammy Guevara comes out to join Darby and Jack, now managing to take control of the ring and scare Rush away.

Renee Paquette tries to interview MJF backstage, asking her feelings ahead of the Double or Nothing match against the other mainstays, but MJF throws the microphone at her and leaves.

Toni Storm issues a challenge to Jamie Hayter to match for the Women’s World Championship in Double or Nothing.

Singles Match: Ricky Starks vs. Jay White w/ Juice Robinson
– Starks hits White with a chair, getting disqualified.

Don Callis comes to the ring to talk to Tony Schiavone. Callis’s betrayal of Kenny Omega is repeated on the giant screen. “Everyone wants me to talk about what I did to Kenny Omega, but no one talks about what Omega did to me. Without me, there’s no Kenny Omega,” Callis says, going over all of Kenny’s accomplishments with him next to her.

Kenny Omega comes out and starts fighting with the security guards protecting Don Callis. Blackpool Combat Club come out to attack Omega! Paradigm Shift from Mox to Omega on the ramp. “The war is over, Kenny. You and your friends can’t beat us, this is your last warning, stay there. We are the elite,” says Mox.

The Young Bucks come out with a trash can with sticks to join Omega. Hangman Adam Page joins them! The four of them advance to the ring and chaos breaks out! The Elite and Page take control, Hangman applies the Buckshot Lariat to Yuta and makes the BCC fall back. “We are the soul, the heart, the spirit of this company. We are The Elite,” Page shouts. Hangman challenges The Elite vs. Blackpool Combat Club at Anarchy in the Arena.
