Tony Khan’s Kind Gesture May Have Influenced Aussie Open’s Decision to Sign with AEW

AEW has been making significant strides in the free agent market this year, outpacing WWE amidst its ongoing hiring freeze. The company recently secured ‘Switchblade’ Jay White, a highly coveted free agent, despite interest from WWE. Additionally, AEW announced that Aussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher) are now officially part of their roster.

A noteworthy detail from a Fightful Select report reveals that AEW President Tony Khan paid for Mark Davis’s meniscus tear surgery before Aussie Open officially joined the promotion. This act of goodwill may have influenced their decision to sign with AEW, despite having supporters in WWE.

The former IWGP Tag Team Champions and NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Champions had to relinquish their titles due to Davis’s injury. However, Kyle Fletcher recently competed against Orange Cassidy for the AEW International Championship.
